Week 20 New Companion in Paradise!

March 30, 2015

Sooooooo... this week has been CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!! So much to do and so little time to do it....
Last picture with Sister Sperry - and we're enjoying TIKKI MASALA - YUMMMM!!
I HAVE A NEW COMPANION!!!!!! Who is pretty AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is from New Hampshire and has been out on her mission for 6 months (came out 1 transfer before me).
Me and Sister Petrie drivin'
Lately we have done a lot of service... like moving people out of the ward and then the ward day of service (teaching a bugling class.... crazy story... but I'll get to that (MOM note: she didn't get to that story so maybe next week...?)), and we haven't been able to see people because they have been sick :) And in turn... I got sick :( Not fun... headache, fever, stuffy sinuses the works... it was great... or not! But I am back to normal today!  (Thank you Heavenly Father and Essential oils and vitamins!). AND! Everyone and their dog wants to feed us... lol :) It is so great! We really don't have to buy anything today :) which is a good day because... it's the end of the month and there's not much there.

Sister Petrie and me studying.
Anyways... one of our investigators just amazes me! She has been taking leaps and bounds! She read the Word of Wisdom pamphlet before she went to bed and had a truly miraculous personal experience afterward. She is so AWESOME! and so is her husband!

Well, the General Women's Conference broadcast on Saturday was AMAZING!!!!!!!! Amen to everything SAID! Families are FOREVER and we need to be active DEFENDERS OF THE FAMILY! Oh yeah! (Mom note: To view or listen go to https://www.lds.org/general-conference/watch?lang=eng)
So... I have run out of time for the day but know that I LOVE YOU!!!!!!! and... I LIKE YOU!

Week 19 - Transfer Call in Paradise!

March 23, 2015

Hello hello hello!
WE GOT TRANSFER CALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This week was so stressful! We both didn't know what was going to happen and we both didn't want to go :(
So Saturday night we got the call. I am staying and Sister Sperry is leaving. Can I just cry! I have LOVED working with Sister Sperry! I hate to see her leave! But!!!!!!! One good thing! SHE IS MY NEW SISTER TRAINING LEADER!!!!!!!!!!!!! My new companion will be Sister Petri (no idea if that's how you spell it) And I am so excited to meet HER! I am sure that she will be awesome!
So I am super short on time but here is a miracle for the week!
An investigator texted us one morning and this is what the text said: "So I prayed last night for a sign or anything to make sure I am on the right path. I stopped this morning to grab some food and the lady in front of me paid for my food. A complete stranger paid for it! I am shocked, but more than anything I feel blessed. I only had $7. And have to eat twice today with that $7. So I am all teary-eyed and feeling blessed. I just wanted to share. I have never had that happen to me..."
I am doing so great! Thank you for all your prayers and love! I love you!

Week 18 - Paradise

March 16, 2015

Well this week has been crazy busy and wonderful!
Moose on the left
On Saturday we had a baptism for Moose! It was so wonderful and amazing! The spirit there was so strong! I feel very blest to have been able to be there :)
Elder Dixion, Elder Fa'alogo, Moose, Sister Sperry & Me
We have been so blest this week that there is too much to share. We have been able to see most of our investigators! There is a new family that we are teaching and we are so excited for them! Ashley (the mom) was the first one that we met. She is a caretaker for one of the older members of our ward and we met her awhile ago but we taught her for the first time this past week. We taught her about the restoration and how there is a prophet on the earth today and invited her to be baptized and she accepted she is so excited but didn't come to church yesterday :'( but we are meeting with her again tonight and we hope that her husband will be there and will want to learn too! So that they can do this as a family!
"I ate bacon before it was cool!" --perfect cup for Megan
We had many miracles happen this Sunday. We had so many people there! Most of the less active members that we have been working with CAME! That made my day! It was so wonderful and amazing!
Exchanges with Sister Martinez
There are so many miracles and blessings that the Lord is showering on us! I am so grateful and honored to be here right NOW! I am sorry this is so short this week. I have been starint at this for like an hour and I just can't remember what I wanted to say... so sorry! But I have PICTURES :)
"Hi!"
- Love ya

Week 17 Camels & Zebras in Paradise! Oh My!

March 2 2015

This week has been crazy and SO AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

So.... at the beginning of the week we were driving to Odin the back way... and lo and behold I look out my wind and was very confused at what I saw. About 6 or 7 camels... CAMELS! WHAT?!?! lol I made Sister Sperry stop the car and we just sat there looking at them not able to believe our eyes! We took pictures, of course, and then started again... but were brought to a stop by the sight of a Zebra... Camels and zebras in the snow out in the middle of southern Illinois. WHAT!?! lol It was great! We had a good laugh :)

Then on Tuesday we finally saw Joe! and set a baptism calendar for him! For March 21! He was so excited and wants to be part of this church so bad! but Friday night he texted us and said he needed time so I hope he is still aiming for that day. If not, he will be baptized when he is ready.

On Wednesday we taught Moose and he brought his friend.... Onion... lol I love these radio names! These guys talk on the radio and go by their radio names! We taught a little of the Gospel of Christ and Moose bore his testimony and was trying really hard to help Onion understand! He is so AWESOME! We gave Onion a Book of Mormon and he called us the next day saying that he forgot what he was supposed to read! So awesome!

Thursday was Zone Leader Training where we all get together in our zone and the Zone Leaders and Sister Training Leaders teach us and get us pumped and excited for missionary work! I Loved it! It was so great! We talked about how we are here for the Lord and we need to be obedient and that is when the Lord is able to bless you more abundantly! :)

Friday was so awesome! We saw J and her boyfriend. She has had a very hard life and wants to change and come closer to God because she knows that He loves her. We taught them about the Restoration of the gospel and then invited J to be baptized and she accepted! Our goal for her is April 18th :) She has a lot of changes to make so we are going to be working a lot with her :) She is so awesome!

Saturday we were racing the weather. It started to snow around 2 and so we were hurrying to see people up in Salem before we had to park our cars. We saw B... which was a miracle! B is T's husband and has only been to church (any church) 2 times in the past 20 years I believe. He is not a member but his wife and daughter are. He agreed to take 4 lessons from us and so we got to teach him and he was more open than I thought he would be! And then we went and taught Moose outside... In the snow! It was so awesome... and cold! lol

Then yesterday stake conference was cancelled and so we went out with the McKs to shovel members drive/walk ways. It was super fun! And then we got the ok to drive and went to Sister Ss for dinner and then out to see D and D! I love them so much! they are awesome! D is a less active member and has gone through a LOT! so he hasn't gone to church in a long time and D is his wife that is not a member and we are teaching her and helping her learn more about Christ!

This week has been absolutely amazing and it is going way too FAST! But I think that is mostly because I am having so much fun!

Love you So MUCH!
Sister Brimley

Week 16 Cold, Cold, and a Little More Cold in Paradise!

February 23, 2015

THIS WEEK HAS BEEN SOOOOO AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND COOLD! Highest we got was a whopping 24 degrees!
OUR CAMO CAR
This whole week has been SUPER AMAZING! We have been able to see so many of our investigators! There have been SO MANY MIRACLES! People have basically been falling into our lap! It's so crazy! We would go and see a less active member and there would be someone there that would want to learn... so... yeah... God is great and amazing and I feel alot like Amulek in Alma 26. I think this is my new favorite chapter! And I would invite everyone to read it!

Sister Sperry and I are so alike.... it's really weird! but so fun! She is such a hard worker and loves being out! She has been on her mission for 10 months... and was Sister Schow's trainer (Sister Schow was one of the sisters that was in my MTC district!). She reminds me of Shaini and Saundra :) which is good... cause they are my friends and I miss them. It is so interesting seeing who people remind me of here. :)

This week has been a whirlwind. We have been going nonstop and have been getting home around 9-9:30 and then plan and go over our day for the next hour-hour and a half.... To say the least I am a little tired but it is amazing the energy I have during the day! God is blessing me so much and I am so thankful!

Some GREAT NEWS! Moose is going to be baptized on MARCH 14! He is so excited and is progressing SO MUCH! He is such a sweet old man! We have lost contact with Joe :'( which is super sad. We haven't given up yet but we will keep trying! We have quite a few new investigators. J, who has had a really rough past and life is still very rough for her but she wants to learn and is basically bringing her whole family with her. She came to church sunday with her 4 kids and a guy (C) that her family (grandma and brother who she is staying with) has opened up their home to. He came and stayed and is going to sit in on the lessons... so... don't know about that one yet... :) and then there is B and B- the Elders had taught them a little and because we are in Centralia we are going to teach them now. They have been reading and keeping the commitments that we have left... except the whole come to church part. Then there is J! We are teaching him again! It is so wonderful and he really wants to learn and is pretty open! And then a few others but I am running out of time :/

MIRACLE OF ALL MIRACLES ON SATURDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were in Salem and we were waiting on a member to come and pick us up so that we could go and see a less active recent convert family. We had like 20 minutes and so I said that we should try to go and see a less active a few blocks down. And so we got out in the freezing cold (like 8 with a windchill of -5 or something like that) and walked. We got there and she was super busy but we just said that we wanted to stop by and say Hi and so she decided to let us in and talk to us for a bit... We prayed and then we talked about life and then she INVITED THE SPIRIT INTO THE CONVERSATION! and then her son came out and said that they wanted to come back to church! They didn't come to church but that was a HUGE STEP!

Sunday was so amazing! We had several investigators at church! J came and she LOVED it! She brought her niece (8 years old) and she loved it too! She was so sweet and said that she liked our church because it was longer and was not boring... lol :) We might be able to teach her too! Moose came and was awesome and amazing as normal! We taught him about the Word of Wisdom yesterday and he had already stopped the smoking, coffee and alcohol because the Hs had basically taught him it all, but we had an official lesson and he got a blessing from the Elders and he has committed to quit chewing! He has been chewing since he was 4 years old! So that's 72 years to work against so he really needed that blessing! He is so excited to be baptized! And S & J came to church which was awesome! They have had a lot of struggles in the whole coming to church thing... which is super important but they have chosen to come... so it was a big step for them!

This week has been GREAT and it's only getting better! I have had so much fun and the time is flying by! I want it to slow down because I don't want it to end but I know that there is so much more to come that is even better!

Love you! so much!

Sister Brimley

Scripture: Alma 37:43-45 my favorite is 44. I love this analogy! It is so true that we are the ones that choose if we are worthy to receive revelation and we are the one that determines how straight our path is!

Week 15 A SNOWY Week in Paradise

February 17, 2015

TRANSFERS! Well I have a new companion, Sister Sperry :) And she is pretty amazing! AND a new apartment! This past week was CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Transfer meeting was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was spiritually filling and much needed, I was sad to leave Sister E but I know she is needed elsewhere and is doing great things :) My new companions name is Sister Sperry, and she is so FUN! and funny, we laugh and smile a lot! and she is so in tune with the spirit :) it is so great!

So we got back from transfers and dropped off Sister Sperry's stuff at the Centralia apt and then went to the Salem apartment to pick up my stuff and to meet the office Elders to pack up the furniture. We got there at about the same time as the office elders and then started to pack everything into the trailer and our car :) It took a long time! We finally got done and drove back to Centralia and then unpacked a few things from the trailer and said goodbye to the Elders and Elder Limb. Then we started to unpack our car... which was filled to the brim!

The next day we rearranged and unpacked everything and then it was back to Salem to pack the last of it and to clean the apartment. We then had a lesson with Moose and he felt the spirit SO strong! Brother H called later that night while we were driving and said that he had just dropped off Moose and that Moose had said that this was the most peaceful he has ever felt in his life! It is so amazing what the gospel does for people!

Well then it was Friday and we did weekly planning where we talk about our investigators and what we can do to help them. We went and saw K and R and Joe... When we saw R she had a friend over and he seemed very interested in reading the Book of Mormon so we gave him one and he asked us a lot of questions :) which we were happy to answer!

Saturday we finally had the time and opportunity to finish cleaning and unpacking! Heavenly Father made it possible for us to get SO MUCH done in very little time! It was amazing and a huge miracle! Then we went out and saw M :) She is so cute and intelligent! I am very excited to see her this next week! Then we went and saw some others that the Elders left for us to take over teaching :) And they are pretty awesome people.

Yesterday was the BEST DAY EVER!!!!! For Reals... It snowed about 5-6 inches Sunday night and our cars were grounded so we couldn't go anywhere... And the Elders left "The Tower of Coco Rice" which was a tower of empty cereal boxes...

...so Sister Sperry and I took it down and of course built forts... and we found some NERF guns and darts so we had a NERF war... :) So fun! And then a member called us and asked if we would go sledding with her... so we did! It was very fun!  MIRACLE!- A member of our ward asked if he could take us shopping Monday and buy our groceries! and then invited us to dinner later this week! It was so great! We are so blessed! Then we went to rotate our laundry and the gentleman that was running the laundry-mat had rotated it for us, which was a miracle because we were running late! Good day :) And then later that night Sister Sperry was like, "We need to go see B." So I was like, "Ok". :) And now we are going to be teaching them! (B was one of the investigators that the Elders left for us.)

And then! Today we went and saw a lady named J and she is going through A LOT right now. She is so prepared for us to teach her, she has such a strong belief in God and sees how He works in her life. The only problem is that she is planning on moving in the next two weeks, so we are going to see her as much as possible while we can.

Well, I have written a lot and there is so much more but I am running out of time :/ I am LOVING it here! And I am loving being a missionary! :)

Week 14 A Bittersweet Week in Paradise

February 9, 2015

 WE HAVE TRANSFERS THIS WEEK!

THAT MEANS I WON'T BE TRAINING ANYMORE!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH... lol :D It' so exciting!

We got the call Saturday night about "transfer doctrine" :D I am staying here in the Centralia ward. But... the sisters are moving to Centralia, so... we both have to pack AND pack the apartment too... and on top of that we have to deep clean the apt.... its been crazy! It is so interesting how the Lord has shut the doors and is making Sister Eschenbrenner and I pack and clean. We have tried to go out and work... but we would have a list of 10 people to go and see (normally we are lucky if we see 2 or 3 from a list of 10 in a whole day) but then we go through the list in less than an hour... mostly because the people would be there and tell us that they are to busy.

In the District, Elder Dickert and Sister Eschenbrenner are leaving :'( Elder Dickert is going to the North Stake in St Louis and Sister Eschenbrenner is going to Fontiac, which is an area with a high population of Jewish people. She will hopefully be able to relate to the people in a way that is very unique to her, because she used to be Jewish! lol :) I will miss both Sister Eschenbrenner and Elder Dickert a lot. They are amazing missionaries and I look up to them so much! But with them leaving we have two new missionaries coming in... drumroll please.... My follow-up trainer will be... Sister Sperry! She seems like she will be AWESOME! She actually is currently training Sister Schow (from the MTC!) so I have no doubts that this new transfer will be amazing! And Elder Dixion will have Elder.... Followgo! He is Polynesian and will be District Leader! This next transfer will be fun :)

So... back to this week :) R is doing very well, considering she has the mind set that she is just learning about the church and has no desire to change... yet! She told us yesterday that she believes that the Book of Mormon is true and that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. So shes coming along, at her own pace. We also contacted a lady named H, who is so awesome and I am excited to teach her. Sister E and Sister Vance (Sister E's companion before me) had taught her once and so we retaught that lesson since it had been such a long time. And she is interested and open. Now we just have to try to caught her when she is not at work... :) and Joe is so close... he just has to commit to a date and come to church!

We had a crazy week of weather... on wednesday it iced and snowed and then by friday it was in the 50's and yesterday was in the high 60's almost 70's and then today is 32.... why won't the weather make up it's mind! lol makes life super interesting :)

Well... I know that this is a short one but hey... it's all good :)

Love ya!
-Sister Brimley

Week 13 This Could be "Para-Para-Paradise"!

February 2, 2015

This week went really REALLY! fast. I feel like I was here just yesterday. Kind of a surreal feeling. But anyway! :)

I love and miss you. But... I like it here so.... too bad ;)

We officially got the news that the Sisters are going to be moving to Centralia and the Elders are going to Carlyle. This will be an interesting change... but it'll be good. So in 2 weeks I can share it with ya'll (people say ya'll here A LOT!) :)

SOOOooo... we were finally able to do the stop smoking workshop with JOE! :) and the timing was perfect because about 14 hrs before our meeting he had smoked his last cigarette and wasn't going to buy any more! YAY! He is still praying about a date to be baptized but it'll come :) He knows this is true and is making the changes... slowly and steadily.

We got a hold of K again and she wants to learn from us :) but she will take time because her life is super crazy right now... but it'll be easier in a few weeks... when we are living closer :)

T is doing so well! A member (that is her long time friend) gave her a book "A Marvelous Work and A Wonder" and said it helped things make sense. T is reading it and asking us a whole lot of questions! She is such an amazing lady and I know that she will get baptized... maybe not while I am here but sometime in the future :) and it will be such a great day!

Yesterday we picked up a new investigator... :) A member of the ward approached us after sacrament and said he had a friend that he wants us to teach. So we went there after church and got to know him a little bit. There is only one problem... he only speaks Spanish... and so we had to take another member (whose calling in the church is to be an interpreter) and talk to him that way... so I guess learning Spanish would not have been that horrible... and I think it might be a good idea to try to learn a little now... lol I am going to see if I can learn from members :) ((Mom note: I tried many times to get her to take at least one class, knowing she'd be going on a mission and so many people everywhere spoke Spanish.))

On Saturday we went to Sister Fs house to clean and do some service. She is almost 90 years old but is still super agile and can DO a whole lot but her eye sight is getting bad.... so we kind made her let us clean for her... and then on Sunday during Relief Society she shared how much that touched and meant to her and we just started crying and crying... she is such a sweet old lady :) We are excited to go back and dust... cause she really needs some young eyes to see it for her :)

Miracle of the Week: Yesterday... Sister E and I both woke up just feeling like crap... On the drive to church we both expressed how we just wanted to cry... for no specific reason except that we would feel better afterward... and then by the end of the day we were SUPER happy... and we were just enjoying missionary life... It is so amazing how good God  is to us!

Love ya lotz XD
Sister Brimley

Scripture(s):  Mosiah 2:41
                    Mosiah chapter 4 and 5

Week 12 A Week of Miracles in Paradise:)

January 26, 2015

(The only pic we got this week)

THIS WEEK WAS AWESOME!
WOW! This week was amazing.... where do I start? Well... we got 2 new investigators this week :) One is super solid and the other has soo many questions! its wonderful!

So the first one is Moose (nickname but goes by it), he is a family friend of the Hs and he got to the point in his life where he wanted to change. C stopped by and talked to him a little and invited him to church. Moose came to church and met us and we taught him a lesson Friday night. He had started to read the books that C had given him and basically asked us when the soonest he could be baptized, and then said an amazing closing prayer, where he told God that he was so thankful for the Hs and the Sister missionaries for helping him come closer to God... It was so amazing! :)

Then there's B. We went over to a new members house to see the new member and B was there. She started asking so many questions it was great! We spent almost 2 hrs answering her questions :) She felt the spirit several times and pointed it out to us, but she didn't know what it was, she just knew that it was good. We got onto the topic of the plan of salvation, the part where when we die we go to either a state of happiness or a state of sadness, but that it was not a permanent condition, that those who were unhappy could learn about Christ and the Atonement and repent and become happy. Then she asked what we thought about those who committed suicide. We told her that those people also had the chance to repent and to learn and grow and become happy and that they were not damned to hell but had the chance to change and live with God again. She started to cry and told us that her dad had committed suicide a year or two ago and that everyone at her church told her that there was no hope for him. She then asked what she had to do to make it so that her dad could live with God. We told her that he would have to have his baptism and temple work done. She then asked how she could get that done, so we explained to her and then we asked her if she wanted to be baptized, she said that she did, but that she didn't think that she would be ready for a while. So we gave her a Book of Mormon and she was so excited!

So update on the whole moving thing -  we got word that we are officially probably going to go Centralia and the Elders will go to Carlyle. :) Yay! but probably not until transfers (feb 11) this transfer has FLOWN BY!

Scripture: Jacob 2:18-19 one of my first weeks here we went to a members house and for fun did a little psych-analysis and one of the questions pertained to how we saw and what we thought of and how we value money... so it was kinda cool seeing how the scriptures teach us to handle wealth... :)

I love you all sooo much!
-Sister Brimley
Week 11 Can Paradise Get Any Better?

January 20, 2015

:) This week has been a very good week :)

I have been able to do and see so much! it has been great...

So to start off.... we haven't moved yet... we probably aren't going to move until transfers (if at all)... and I think I failed to explain some minor details. We might be moved into a different city in the ward boundaries (we have a HUGE ward boundary... and it covers a good 20 cities and towns)... soooo it is not that anything bad happened... it's just that it's time for a change, BUT! we will still be in the same ward, just a different town :)

I think I'll share a funny spiritual experience... weird combo I know :) So Sunday we went to go and meet with R and we had to work really hard to share with her and have her understand. We asked her about what answers she had gotten to her prayers and she said that she got one answer. She got the answer that Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God... but she doesn't believe that this is the true church yet... or that she needs to be baptized by someone who holds God's priesthood... we are still working on that :) so at the end of our appointment with her, we asked her to give the prayer.

****IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE!**** when we pray with her we hold hands around the table and one of us prays, and she says "amen" and "thank you Lord" to things that she agrees with and its kinda different than the way that we pray... ***ok back to story*** So she says the prayer and we all say amen and sit there for a second... longer than usual and then she starts praying AGAIN!!!! She continues to do this about 8 times! and then she asks us if we want to say a prayer. We brought Amy (a young woman in the ward) with us and she jumped on the opportunity and basically bore her testimony through her prayer and asked God to give R understanding. Then she closed and we said amen and R asked if anyone else wanted to pray. So Sister Eschenbrenner did and taught and testified of the truthfulness that we had taught her through her prayer and then we sat for a second and R asked again if anyone wanted to give a prayer, so I did, and I taught and testified and promised in the name of Christ that she would receive a witness that the Book of Mormon is true, and that she would know what God wants her to do with that knowledge... and then I closed... and we sat there for a little while and listened to the Spirit testify. It was amazing :)

Then we tried to track down Joe Sunday night... AND WE FOUND HIM! He kinda fell off the face of the earth! We had a really good conversation with him and he KNOWS that this is the true church of God and that he needs to be baptized and a part of this church! We cleared up some misunderstandings that he had and he was so happy and excited :) We texted him yesterday and asked if he had gotten our message (rescheduling an appointment) and he said "Yes and it felt like angels were dancing on my eardrums". (Sister E and I had a really good laugh, because he is actually REALLY shy and it surprised us.) Joe has a new baptism date... and he seems super excited about this date and we think he will be ready by then :)

We had Zone Conference this week! *Zone Conference (for those that don't know) is when missionaries from one or two Zones (a Zone is made up of several Districts) come together and are taught by the Mission President, his wife, the assistants to the president (or for short AP and they are missionaries that the president calls to help him), the Zone Leaders and the Sister Training leaders.* EVERYTHING TAUGHT WAS AMAZING! It was so uplifting and refreshing. We have a new goal for this years' baptisms, it is 453. There was an experience that was share as to how they got this number. Mission President drew on the chalkboard 300 and then 500 on top of each other but left space in between and took his chalk and told them to stop him when they thought they were close to the number they should choose. He got half way up and several people said to stop. They were at about 450 and then an Elder said, "This might be crazy but in Alma 45:3 it says 'And Helaman said unto him: Yea, I believe'" so we got the number 453, THE CHURCH IS SO TRUE! :) so we have a motto and a goal. Yea, I believe!

I have learned so much... it has been such a blessing :) We are coming to the end of the transfer, Feb 11th and it makes me sad to think that I won't be Sister E's companion anymore... but I am very excited to meet who I will be working with next :) and I am treasuring my time with her and learning all that I can :)

I have a binder that I got to fill with letters and notes from everyone :) and I am going to try to make sure that I reply as best as I can to all of them! I LOVE ALL OF YOU! you are all so amazing and I am blessed to have you as part of my life and to share this time in my life with you! THANK YOU!

LOVE LOTZ!
